A hoodie is a sweatshirt with a hood. Most clothing called hoodies in Japan are hoodies or similar. In the past, it was also called a hooded trainer as a sweatshirt with a hood.
Hoodie was developed in the 1930s by American sports clothing manufacturer Champion and sold in New York.
Originally sold as work clothes for warehouse workers, it is now sold and worn as fashion.
It began to be worn as a fashion item in the 1970s when hip-hop artists wore it. Fashion designers also followed suit, and various fashion brands began to handle hoodies.
